Remembering Christmastime in Berlin

I hope you are having a wonderful Holiday Season.

Christmas Magic at Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt

Have you seen the latest images from Berlin? For as much as the times have changed, one thing that has not changed is Christmastime in Berlin. The Christmas Markets all over Berlin are open for business. Traditional Gingerbread Hearts, Gluhwein, Bratwurst, and all the other great and tasty food and drink.

Traditional Gingerbread Hearts

The food is not the only reason visit those Christmas Markets. The abundance of handmade crafts and gifts for kids of all ages. The nutcrackers, the wooden doll candle-holders, Christmas tree ornaments and just about anything else.

Of course, all the markets throughout a unified Berlin are nothing compared to the one we remember the at the foot of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, better known as Weihnachtsmarkt am Gedächtniskirche. I can almost smell the Gluhwein now.

Not every day in the Berlin Brigade was full of history making events then again being in West Berlin was history in the making for all members of the US Army Berlin Command, Berlin Garrison, US Army Berlin Brigade or whatever it was known any time during the almost 50 years of US Forces in Berlin after World War II.

Here we see CPT Jack C. Davis and 1LT Kvederas participating in the uniquely daily routine of Wall Patrol.  Photo is part of the Gallery Archive of Don Fitzwater when he was a member of Company B, 2nd Battle Group, 6th Infantry Regiment.
